Informa TechTarget (Nasdaq: TTGT) today announced that Fahmida Rashid has assumed the role of Editor in Chief of Dark Reading, the esteemed online publication that recently celebrated its 20th anniversary as a leading authority on cybersecurity. As Editor in Chief, Rashid—a member of the Dark Reading editorial team since 2021, who most recently served as Managing Editor for Tech and Features—will continue the Informa TechTarget publication’s mission to provide essential news, insights, and expert analysis to cybersecurity professionals worldwide. Rashid succeeds Kelly Jackson Higgins, who is stepping down after 20 years with Dark Reading to launch an independent business venture.
“I’m excited for Fahmida Rashid to lead the next chapter of Dark Reading alongside our incredibly talented team of journalists. She has a clear and compelling vision for building on the legacy of this beloved publication, a deep connection with the cybersecurity market, strong leadership abilities, and a thorough understanding of our editorial, audience, and business objectives,” said Davide Savenije, SVP, Editorial at Informa TechTarget. “We are forever grateful to Kelly Jackson Higgins for her incredible service in helping build Dark Reading into the powerhouse it is today.”
Since joining Dark Reading in 2006 as its third employee, Jackson Higgins has had a significant impact—shaping its trusted editorial coverage, solidifying its reputation among cybersecurity leaders, and mentoring the next generation of cybersecurity editors and journalists. In 2021, she recruited Rashid to the publication, and the two have worked closely together since.
“I’m honored to build on the incredible foundation Kelly Jackson Higgins has established for Dark Reading. For the past five years, Kelly has been an invaluable mentor, always generous with her time and attention and an absolute dream to work with,” said Fahmida Rashid, Editor in Chief, Dark Reading. “Cybersecurity has evolved from a niche technical topic into something that permeates every aspect of our lives, both personally and professionally. I look forward to expanding our coverage and partnerships to dig deeper into cyber’s broadening impact.”
Over two decades, Rashid has established herself as an editorial leader and a key voice within the cybersecurity space. At Dark Reading, she has collaborated across editorial, research, audience development, sales, and product teams to shape content strategy, develop stories, and improve editorial operations. A speaker at industry events including Black Hat USA and DEF CON, Rashid has combined journalistic storytelling with deep technical expertise to establish herself as a security industry thought leader, and built solid relationships throughout the security ecosystem.
In 2024, Rashid was named a Maynard 200 Fellow, participating in a prestigious program by the Maynard Institute that trains and supports diverse media storytellers, editors, and entrepreneurs. She has been recognized with multiple Azbee awards from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE), both for her work with Dark Reading and as an independent journalist.
Prior to joining Dark Reading, Rashid co-founded Decipher, a cybersecurity magazine focused on analyzing and explaining security news and trends. Throughout her technology journalism career, she has written about enterprise applications, software, networking, and open source for mainstream and trade publications, including InfoWorld, CSO Online, PCMag, the CRN Test Center, IEEE Spectrum, and SecurityWeek. She started her journalism career writing business news at Women’s Wear Daily and covering networking infrastructure at Forbes. Her stories are informed by her early career experience as an IT professional before she pivoted to journalism.
“Twenty years with Dark Reading has been a wonderful and uniquely rewarding experience, unlike anything I could have imagined in 2006. I’ve been fortunate to have been part of the evolution of cybersecurity and the larger technology industry for decades,” said Kelly Jackson Higgins, a three-time honoree as one of the Top 10 Cybersecurity Journalists in the U.S., and one of Folio’s 2019 Top Women in Media. “It’s been a sincere honor to lead and work with the cybersecurity editorial team at Informa TechTarget, and I know Dark Reading is in great hands. Fahmida and the team are truly the best journalists in cyber, and I’ll be keeping up with their reporting.”
Since 2006, Dark Reading has cultivated a strong reputation as a trustworthy source of news, analysis, and informed perspectives among a loyal audience of cybersecurity and IT professionals. It is a flagship brand in Informa TechTarget’s award-winning editorial portfolio, which serves more than 2.5 million cybersecurity decision-makers with journalism, events, and niche content across Dark Reading, Cybersecurity Dive, TechTarget’s cybersecurity coverage, and several cyber-focused BrightTALK webinar communities.
